The military (armed forces)
Difficulties with relationships can occur over the short-term (for example, temporary issues within the family, at work or with neighbours) or, for a variety of reasons, a person may have long-term relationship issues. Reasons for long-term difficulties can include the effects of abuse, dependency/addiction, autism, rejection, bereavement, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more.
The ability to form and sustain good relationships, and good communication within those relationships, is critical to human existence. When relationships and communication break down, the effects can be extremely difficult for the individual concerned as well as a wide circle of people around them. These effects can disrupt every aspect of life.
EAP as a therapy
Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) can help people deal with the effects of relationship and communication difficulties, as well as helping people to identify, own and address any unhelpful attitudes or behaviours within themselves which are contributing to poor relationships and communication. Discover how EAP works.
Horses are highly social animals, having evolved to live in closely knit family groups where peaceful co-existence and the ability to work effectively together have been essential for their survival. Their non-verbal communication skills mean that an unbalanced or disruptive animal is swiftly identified and the reason for the disruptive behaviour addressed.
Clients may often identify with the reactions of the horse, reflecting on situations and individuals in their own lives, taking ownership and responsibility, and creating their own solutions.
Our EAP programme
We work with individuals and groups (eg family members or colleagues) aged 16 and above. Typically, 6 to 8 one-hour sessions will be required, which represents fast access to a short-term intervention as well as exceptional value for money for the client/s or the commissioner.
