The effects of abuse can last a lifetime, and can be debilitating. While conventional therapies and counselling can help, the fact that effects of abuse are long-term generally means that treatment is a long haul, too. And when a treatment goes on for a long time, the effects can diminish and the client may feel that they are unable to make positive progress.
Abuse & EAP
Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) offers a safe, gentle and effective way to deal with the long-term effects of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, as well as childhood neglect. It can be used on its own, or alongside other therapies. It can be particularly useful in kick-starting other treatments which seem to reached a brick wall. Discover how EAP works.
Our EAP programme
We work with clients aged 16 and over, helping them deal with the effects of abuse and neglect so that they can make positive progress in their lives. Horses accept clients into their space by reading what the clients is projecting in the moment. Interacting with the horses allows clients to explore issues such as boundary-setting, personal space, self-worth, etc in a safe and non-judgemental setting. EAP also helps clients to boost their self-confidence and to identify, own and address any unhelpful attitudes or behaviours which may be contributing to being ‘stuck’ where they are.
